Loads of inputs on the back. There is an optional Ipod dock, which I purchased later, that allows me to listen to my music and the Ipod menu to be placed on my television screen. It is very easy to set up and if one needs the directions, they are well written. This makes a really nice center piece to build your home theater system with. Another thing I like is that there is a dimmer that one can use to totally turn off the front panel. It is a snap.
Based on the sampling, the receiver sets itself up.
The Denon AVR-888 has a built in program that calculates all of the speaker distances and delay algorithms to achieve the highest possible performance.
It has the capability for independent zones and has sufficient HDMI input/outputs.
I got mine in December 2008.
The remote is very functional and well thought out.
It even evaluates the room size and echo.
It comes with an external microphone that one moves through the room to sample 6 different spots in the listening area.
One of my favorite features is that the Denon AVR-888 puts its menus on my television screen rather than always having to deal with the smaller screen on the front of the receiver itself.
I do not like the distracting lights on the receiver when I am watching a movie, so this is cool to me.
I'm not a home theater expert by any stretch of the imagination. We are using this system to take the input from our Playstation, iMac, cable TV, DVD and radio and output the video to a 720p projector in our home theater room and speakers in 2 zones. When planning our home theater, we borrowed ideas from the setups of 2 friends. One of my friends had an older model that is similar to this one so I decided to purchase this one.Am very happy with the purchase. I love how the receiver upconverts the composite video from the cable box - it is hard to believe the signal was not originally HD. The difference from running the composite signal straight to the projector vs upconverted is simply amazing.I found the manual difficult to understand, but was able to set up the home theater without any major difficulty.Delivery from Amazon was quick with no hassles.
Denon AVR 888 brings a whole new awlsome digital sound comparing to my previous analag receiver. Since I saw many Review comments that the instruction and the remote features can be confusing, so I spent a little time ahead to read the manual and familiarize with the remote and the receiver features. Then I spent a little time on the surround sound set up but the outcome is rewarding. After all, I am very happy with the receiver and the price I paid for at Amazon.com
Denon AVR-888 provides great sound due to its robust multi power supplies. HDMI carries sound. Built-in upconversion can be selected to up-convert all analog video to 1080p with no noticeable color distrotion.Set up is not as difficult per some reviews if you follow the manual step-by-step.It is my first Denon and the 888 is now discontinued and replaced by a new model. I bought it from Amazon at a great sale price.
This item appears to take a rocket scientist to figure out the instructions and to setup in operational mode. Thus, in remains in the box on the shelf until further help arrives. I had a helper, who is quite able in electronics, who could not get it workings either. I do not recommend this receiver for the average person to purchase.
